We will walk towards the market square where... 2 hours
We will walk towards the market square where you will see the first two prominent landmarks, the Falkenhaus an inn built in the 18th century with a lovely rococo facade. Just north of the marketplace lies the Marienkapele (Mary’s Chapel) with its well preserved gothic architecture and beautiful statues made by famous German sculptor Tilman Riemenschneider. It’s a short walk from there to the town hall and the large baroque fountain, the “Vierröhrenbrunnen”, from this point we will be crossing the old bridge over the main river which is also a great photo opportunity. (Optional on this tour is the Marienberg Fortress across the river, which is accessible by public transport or on foot. It’s about a 20 minute walk up to the fortress if you prefer walking, and from there you will have a spectacular view of the Main river valley and the city. On the way down, crossing the bridge, we’re making our way towards the Residence, a grand baroque city palace. Located under the Residence is the Staatlicher Hofkeller. The old royal court wine cellar that offers some of the best wines of the region, a trade this city is famous for!
