As one of the best-preserved parts of the Great Wall, the Mutianyu section used to serve as the northern barrier defending the capital and the imperial tombs. You have the choice of taking a round-trip cable car ride to the wall, or taking the chairlift and return via the downhill toboggan run. Then, enjoy two to three hours on the wall independently.
