From the center of Piazza del Titano, observe the austere architecture of its buildings, which feature recurring features such as pillars and simple balconies. The Cava dei Balestrieri is a historical landmark of the city and can be easily visited as soon as you arrive in the historic center because it is located a stone's throw from the cable car stop. Its initial use was as a quarry for the recovery of materials and for the extraction of the stone necessary for the restoration of the nearby Palazzo Pubblico. From the 1960s onwards this area was equipped for shooting with the large Italian crossbow, an ancient game of arms which is today part of the historical recovery and folklore of the Republic of San Marino. The inauguration of the Cava dei Balestrieri officially took place on 3 September 1971.
