During our dhow cruise, we anchor at the historic Telegraph Island, one of Musandam’s most famous landmarks. The island is approximately 160 meters long and up to 90 meters wide, covering an area of about 1.1 hectares. The name “Telegraph” dates back to 1864, when a British telegraph-cable repeater station was built on the island to connect communications between India and the United Kingdom. The station was abandoned in the mid-1870s, and today the island remains uninhabited. Visitors can still see the ruins of the repeater station and the operators’ quarters, offering a glimpse into the region’s rich history. Surrounded by calm, crystal-clear waters, Telegraph Island is a perfect stop for swimming, snorkeling, and relaxing while enjoying the breathtaking fjord scenery of Musandam. The Ministry of Tourism is currently developing the island to further enhance it as a distinctive tourist attraction for visitors to the Sultanate of Oman - Musandam Peninsula
