Mti Mkubwa (forest camp) to Shira 2 Camp

Elevation: 2800m to 3750m, distance: 14 km, hiking time: 7-8 hours, habitat: heath/ moorland You will continue your trek and will leave the rainforest behind you when you enter into the heath andmoorlands. After that, you will reach the Shira ridge and continue to the Shira 2 camp for the night.

Shira 2 Camp to Lava Tower to Barranco Camp

Elevation: 3750m to 3950m, distance: 10 km, hiking time: 6-8 hours, habitat: alpine desert We will continue towards the Kibo peak, after which we continue to the Lava Tower (also called 'sharkstooth'). Shortly after, we will pass the Arrow Glacier and continue to the Barranco Camp.

Barranco camp to Karanga camp

Elevation: 3950m to 4040m, distance: 5 km, hiking time: 4-5 hours, habitat: alpine desert During the trek we pass the Barranco Wall to the Karanga Valley. You will stay overnight at the Karanga Camp.

Karanga camp to Barafu Camp

Elevation: 4040m to 4700m, distance: 4 km, hiking time: 4-5 hours, habitat: alpine desert In the morning we leave Karanga and hit the junction which connects with the Mweka Trail. We continue up to the Barafu Hut. You have now completed the south circuit and you will rest and prepare for the summit at Barafu camp.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka camp

Elevation: 4700m to 5895m and down again to 3100m, hiking time 5-7 hours up, 5-7 hours down, habitat:icy summit You will start to summit between the Rebmann and Ratzell glaciers, making your way up to the StellaPoint. Then you will summit the Uhuru peak, after which there will be time to celebrate and make pictures. After that, you will start the descent to Mweka Hut where you will stay overnight.

Mweka camp to Mweka gate and back to Moshi

Elevation: 3100m down to 1650m, hiking time: 3-4 hours, habitat: forest At this last day of the trek, you will continue your descent from Mweka hut straight to Mweka gate.
