Opunohu Bay is one of Moorea's main bays 30 minutes
Opunohu Bay is one of Moorea's main bays. It is a magnificent site that has served as a setting for many films such as Les Révoltés du Bounty. The bay pass is called “Tareu” which means “sheltered” because this harbor is deep and well protected from winds to anchor boats. Opunohu means “the belly of the stone fish”. Opunohu Bay is three kilometres long and 80 metres deep. On September 30, 1777, Discovery and Resolution, ships of the famous navigator Captain James Cook, entered Tareu Pass. He describes its anchorage as one of the best natural ports he has seen in the South Sea Islands. This magnificent bay is full of stories and legends to discover.
Unparalleled in beauty, this narrow strip of white... 1 hour
Unparalleled in beauty, this narrow strip of white sand (also known as Mareto Beach) lies on Moorea’s north coast. Bordered by coconut trees, it offers spectacular views of the green mountains overlooking Opunohu Bay. You can simply swim in its clear waters, or bring fins, mask and snorkel to explore the coral-encrusted underwater canyon that lies off this public beach. Here you will rub shoulders with, among other fish and sea creatures, sea turtles, leopard rays and blacktip sharks. Often ranked among the most beautiful beaches in the World.
A magnificent setting between land and sea 30 minutes
A magnificent setting between land and sea. Cook Bay is one of Moorea's main bays. The pass overlooking the bay is called Teavaroa (long passage) because of its large opening to the sea. This bay was named "Cook's Bay" during the third voyage of the navigator James Cook in 1777. The scenery is beautiful between the green peaks and mountains and the king blue of the bay stretching for several kilometers. Cook Bay is also a safe place for boaters who want to anchor themselves to land. Legend has it that Pao Pao is the northern part of the fin of the fish that came from Raiatea that became Tahiti and Moorea.
