The part of the medina of Essaouria concentrates the majority of the monuments: the clock tower, the Istiqlal, SIdi Mohammed Ibn Abdallah (the biggest mosque of Essaouira) "Ibn Youssef" the Souk, the Jdid, the square of Moulay Hassan , the square of Orson Welles (which made the city famous in the movie Othello), the Skala the fort ... On the other hand, you can not miss a visit to the old Jewish quarter or Mellah, something abandoned nowadays but with a lot of charm. After the visit of the medina, you continue on foot towards the center through Place Moulay Hassan, crowded with numerous cafes and restaurants and dominated by the clock tower. Entering the Medina you breathe a totally different atmosphere compared to Marrakech: it is pleasant to walk in peace without anybody annoyingly attracting your attention to invite you to purchase a staff or somehing. You slowly walk in search of a little place to have lunch
