Famous for the Da Vinci Code conspiracy, Rosslyn... 2 hours
Famous for the Da Vinci Code conspiracy, Rosslyn Chapel is full of mysteries and legends. At first glance, the chapel might look small and humble, but upon closer inspection, you’ll see how awe-inspiring the stone masonry and carvings really are. There’s actually a story about the ‘apprentice pillar’ which you might know, where the apprentice was left to carve one pillar by himself and the work was so spectacular, the master mason killed him in a fit of jealousy!
As you approach Berwick, the landscape is fairly... 1 hour
As you approach Berwick, the landscape is fairly flat aside from Berwick Law, a large hill protruding from the ground. It’s a prominent landmark in Scotland and actually features two whale bones on the summit (now made of fibreglass), which makes for a rather cool picture.
Once you reach North Berwick, you’ll no doubt be ready for lunch 2 hours
Once you reach North Berwick, you’ll no doubt be ready for lunch. This is a lovely seaside town, with two beaches and plenty of cafes and restaurants to choose from. There’s also the fantastic Scottish Bird Centre, where you can look through binoculars and telescopes towards Bass Rock and admire the birds and wildlife in their natural habitat.
Bass Rock is a prominent mark on the landscape - you certainly won’t miss it 1 hour
Bass Rock is a prominent mark on the landscape - you certainly won’t miss it. With views out to the sea, you’ll see flocks of birds swarm the Rock and dive into the waves beneath.
Your final stop before returning to Edinburgh is Tantallon Castle 2 hours
