There is approx. 1 ½ Miles of walking. If guests do not want to do the full Cliff Walk, they can spend more time at the O’Brien Tower or Visitors Centre where there is a Café and shopping in the gift shop. As you explore, you’ll encounter the diverse wildlife that calls the cliffs home, from nesting seabirds to rare coastal flora. Your guide will also share insights into the Wild Atlantic Way, one of the most scenic coastal routes in the world, highlighting the beauty of Ireland’s rugged western coast. The tower was built on the cliffs in 1835 by the local landlord and MP Sir Cornelius O’Brien as an observation point for the English tourists who frequented the area at the time. It is said to have initially served as a teahouse or folly; another version tells of Cornelius building the tower in order to impress the women he was courting! Whatever the truth, from this vantage point on a clear day you can see the Aran Islands and the Twelve Bens of Connemara across Galway Bay.
