Tour Itinerary

8:40am 40 minutes

8:40am. Only metres from the ocean swim in the freshwater spring pool sitting beneath a historic church. Swim 25 metres into the cave and sit on a natural ledge at the end. There is enough natural light once your eyes adjust. Looking back toward the entrance a remarkable phenomenon makes your submerged legs appear a tint of cyan blue.

10:00am 1 hour 30 minutes

10:00am. Unquestionably the nation’s most renown destination site. Brave the steep descent into the trench and swim the tidal waters 30m through a natural tunnel to the lesser second trench. Stroll around the lovely gardens and gaze over the beautiful volcanic coast.

12:00am 40 minutes

12:00am. Lovely and quieter beach setting for a delicious focaccia tuna sandwich lunch and snacks where our guide engages with the chief according to village custom, before equipping everyone with head lamp or flashlight in preparation for our tour of the cave pool.

12:45pm 1 hour 10 minutes

12:45pm. VAIULA CAVE POOL A short hike through the jungle to the hidden entrance. The journey through the 150m long lava tube is fascinating. After descending into the “cave” we encounter some nice horizontal sections and minor talus slope, occasionally requiring one to bend down to avoid scraping one’s head. Finally, the pool, where the water is so absolutely pure and crystal clear. Swim 10 – 15m to where the tube dives underwater.
