Tour Itinerary
Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima Island, nestled in Japan's... 50 minutes
Oyamazumi Shrine on Omishima Island, nestled in Japan's Seto Inland Sea, holds immense significance for samurai enthusiasts. While the shrine itself is revered, its collection of armor and weaponry steals the spotlight. Around 80% of Japan's National Treasure-level armaments reside here, stemming from offerings made by victorious samurai praying for success in battle. Positioned along a historic sea route between Kyoto and Kyushu, the shrine became a pivotal stop for warriors seeking divine favor. The shrine, surrounded by ancient Camphor trees, boasts two colossal specimens estimated to be thousands of years old, revered and adorned with sacred ropes. Notably, the guardian statues at the main gate diverge from the norm: instead of traditional fierce giants, they portray Zuijin, standing figures in armor, emphasizing the shrine's martial heritage. Oyamazumi Shrine stands as a revered sanctuary honoring the legacy of samurai through its extraordinary collection and sacred setting.
Perched atop Ararat hill overlooking the Seto Inland... 40 minutes
Perched atop Ararat hill overlooking the Seto Inland Sea, the Tokoro Museum Omishima resembles Noah's Ark and offers a unique fusion of contemporary art and breathtaking natural vistas. Opened in 2004 by Atsuo Tokoro, this museum showcases around 30 collections, featuring works by renowned artists like Noe Katz, Tom Wesselmann, and others, blending three-dimensional art seamlessly. Visitors are welcomed through Noe Katz's "Kissing Doors" into a journey where changing landscapes merge with modern artworks. The museum's design allows glimpses of Setouichi's scenery, creating an immersive experience. The atrium, bathed in soft natural light and gentle sea breezes, complements the sloped structure. The open terrace provides a stunning viewpoint to behold the beauty of the Seto Inland Sea's many islands, inviting visitors to immerse themselves in the captivating blend of contemporary art and the natural splendor of the surroundings.
The Imabari City Ken Iwata Mother and Child... 50 minutes
The Imabari City Ken Iwata Mother and Child Museum, inaugurated in 2011, proudly showcases the heartwarming artistry of Ken Iwata, renowned for his emotive focus on "mothers and children." Designed by Toyo Ito, the semi-outdoor exhibition space allows visitors to leisurely appreciate sculptures while immersed in the Seto Inland Sea's light and breeze, offering a serene experience. Adding to its charm, the museum features an original song titled "The Door of Time," graciously provided by Ken Iwata's former students, Akira Senju and Mariko Senju. Composed by Akira Senju and performed on violin by Mariko Senju, this melodic masterpiece resonates as "music that tells the time." Visitors can enjoy two versions, a morning rendition (1 min 46 sec) played at 9:00, 10:00, 11:00, and 12:00, and an evening version (2 min 17 sec) from 13:00 to 17:00. We warmly invite all patrons to savor this enchanting musical experience during their visit to the museum.
